Our client, Phat Nguyen, a 21-year-old MSU junior, attended a "blackout" event planned by members of the Pi Alpha Phi fraternity he was pledging. The goal of the party, according to the lawsuit, was for Nguyen and the other pledges to get "as drunk as possible as fast as possible so they would black out — or 'die' — and be 'reborn' as members of the fraternity." Nguyen's family said they hope the lawsuit and criminal cases provide "some measure of justice and accountability" although nothing will bring him back.
