Negligence Resulting in the Suicide of a 15-Year-Old Female
A 15-year-old girl in state custody for petty property crimes was found in her room at the Thomas J. S. Waxter Children’s Center in Laurel, Maryland hanging by her shoelaces from a bottom bunk while her roommate was reading on the bed above. The death brought to light Maryland’s Department of Juvenile Justice’s sluggishness in starting suicide prevention and screening programs.
